The features of these tabs are combined in a single lesson. Features from this tab are also referred to throughout the course. The Smart Art Tab offers the ability to make flow diagrams, the formula’s tab covers all pre functioned formulas in excel and the review tab allows for implementing features such as notes and spell check.
An explanation of some of the key standard formulas available in excel. Functions covered: Sum, Average, Max, Min and Count. These are the most common used functions of excel.
Vertical Lookup (Vlookup) and Horizontal Lookup (Hlookup) are features of excel that allow users to make a query on a data table. These are very useful functions that help in report making through data querying.
The index function when combined with the Vlookup and Hlookup functions allows for the creation of dynamic reports. Index offers a quick solution for querying a table with vertical and horizontal reference points.
The sum if and average if functions allow the application of the sum function and the average function based on a specific criterion. Values within a specific range can be summed based on a specific criterion using the SumIf function. Similarly, averages can be calculated within a specific range with the AverageIf function.
The IF statement is used to determine validity of a criterion. A cell is declared and the calculation is made to determine if this cell meets the criterion in IF statement. Pre determined outcomes can be implemented based on the statements validity.
The nested IF statement allows for multiple calculations to be made within a single IF statement. In a nested IF statement a secondary IF statement is tested for while within the initially setup IF statement. This video shows the nesting of an IF statement.
The video in this chapter teaches how to nest a function within a function. The functions that are utilized can be different types of functions. In this particular example the Vertical lookup function is nested inside an IF statement.
This example showcases the use of Microsoft Excel for Personal Financial Management. No quiz.
